Closing Your Pool
It's very important that your pool is winterized properly, thereby protecting your pool and equipment and making next spring's opening routine and trouble-free.
As water temperatures decrease, so does chemical demand. However, filtration, chlorination and PH control should continue until closing. The following method makes it easy to have sparkling clear water on that great spring day when you open your pool.
SPECIAL NOTE: Do not drain your pool completely unless recommended by the pool builder, or manufacturer.
Consult with Clearwater Pools service team for all mechanical winterizing techniques.
Before closing:
- Backwash and clean filter's sand (or Zeobrite)
- Test PH; if necessary, adjust to 7.2-7.8
- Test Alkalinity, if necessary, adjust to 80-120 ppm
- Vacuum Pool and brush walls and bottom
Scrub around the top of the pool liner with Pool Protect Amaze and a scrub brush
- Remove the ladder (and diving board for inground pools), and store for the winter
- Super chlorinate
- Lower water level and drain lines (for inground pool add anti-freeze to lines)
- Winterize all equipment as per manufacturer's directions
- Remove the skimmer basket and controls and store for the winter
Insert foam block into mouth of skimmer and add an empty bottle to skimmer to allow for expansion
- Use a well-fitted winter pool cover for best results.
Clearwater Pools carry the Aquapro Winterizing Chemical Kit that includes all chemicals needed to close your pool properly.
All surplus chemicals should be properly sealed in a cool, dry place
CAUTION: Improperly closed pools and equipment can result in severe and costly damage. If in doubt of any step, call a professional at Clearwater Pools for expert guidance.
